So what is Gem Silica? 
Gem silica is a bluish green to greenish blue variety of chalcedony that receives its vivid color from the presence of copper. It is often known as "chrysocolla chalcedony" or "gem silica chrysocolla." Gem silica is the most valuable variety of chalcedony, with quality cut gemstones selling for well over $200 per carat. 

I only got to know this type of gem some years ago during a trip in Arizona. The best gem silica has vivid blue green colour and almost glowing. My attention was instantly grabbed by its unusual beauty and quality. 

This is a rare gem with exceptional quality. 

The Taiwanese has developed an obsession with gem silica quite earlier on because there was an discovery of high quality gem silica mine. They call this gem Taiwan Sapphire (台湾蓝宝）and selling them with a very high price mark. Unfortunately, the mine in Taiwan was eventually exhausted and today the best quality of this kind comes from Arizona, namely two copper mines in the US: Inspiration and Ray mine.
